Adrian Newey‘s exit from Red Bull won’t have a massive impact on the Austrian team’s 2025 season. However, during the regulation changes of 2026, Milton Keynes might face major issues. Newey’s role at Red Bull had been highly respected and a majority of the team believed that losing the aero-genius would hurt the team. Amidst the shocking revelation, Helmut Marko shared his opinion over the technical wizard exiting the team.

Some people believed that Adrian Newey was ‘replaceable’ at Red Bull. However, Helmut Marko believed otherwise. The 80-year-old claimed that Newey exiting the team was a ‘big loss’ for the Austrian team. The Red Bull advisor further mentioned that the Englishman was no longer involved in the daily management, yet he was the one who controlled the most complex part of aerodynamics. Hence it was difficult to see the 65-year-old leave.

Obviously a big loss for Red Bull Racing, perhaps he was no longer involved in daily management, perhaps he did not say his every detail, about every vine, but it was he who controlled the complex knowledge of aerodynamics and the mechanical seal of the entire car.
Helmut Marko said, as reported by formulapassion.it.

Apart from this, Marko recalled Newey’s great championship-winning work for the Austrian constructor. The 80-year-old labeled the aero-genius a ‘legend’ due to these reasons. Additionally, the advisor reckoned that the team was in an optimal position. The reason for this was the young and motivated group of engineers in the Austrian team, keen to make the car as fast as possible.

Furthermore, his great successes have made him a legend. In recent years we have built a team of young engineers, so we are in an optimal position
Helmut Marko noted.

Helmut Marko claims Adrian Newey was the ‘first one’ to understand regulation changes ‘optimally’

Adrian Newey’s excellence in the ground-effect era earned him a lot of praise and applause. Hence, the team expected the 65-year-old to work with the team beyond the current set of regulations. However, the exit was met with a lot of uncertainty for the crew. Marko recalled the regulation changes and how the team would be affected by them.

Hence, Helmut Marko asserted that Newey was the first one to fully understand the regulation changes optimally. Now if the Englishman decides to join another team before the regulation changes, it could pay off dividends to the team. The 65-year-old will take a lot of knowledge to the rival teams and could pose a threat to Red Bull’s dominance.

Obviously in 2026 there will be new regulations. When in the past these rules have arrived, usually Adrian was the first to understand them optimally
Helmut Marko stated.

Regardless of this situation, the sport might be looking at a very exciting season after regulation changes. If Newey moves to Ferrari, the Italian constructor might have a shot at the 2025 championship. However, Red Bull’s domination for the remaining two seasons will be a great send-off for the aero-genius. The engineer will focus on his RB17 Hypercar duties before fully exiting the team.
