Lewis Hamilton needed a change in Formula 1 after struggling at Mercedes in the last couple of years. The seven-time world champion decided to move to Scuderia Ferrari in hopes of rediscovering his mojo. Five races into 2025, things could not have been worse. Hamilton has faced difficulties in adapting to his new team. Now, Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko has reckoned that the Briton is desperate to get a jackpot at Maranello.
Since the start of the season, Lewis Hamilton has faced to live up to high expectations. The only standout result being the shock sprint victory at the Chinese GP. Unfortunately, the last couple of rounds have been more challenging for Hamilton. The F1 star even predicts that his entire season is going to remain painful with no real hopes of improvement for the time being.
Helmut Marko acknowledged that the situation has come to a point where Hamilton is visibly desperate to perform. The 81-year-old reckoned that the seven-time world champion has completely given up on the current season and has his eyes set on the 2026 rule change.
Lewis Hamilton would be hoping that Ferrari hits the ‘jackpot’ with the new regulations and gains an advantage against the rest of the grid. Moreover, Marko pointed out that the Briton also wants the car to be easier to handle next year.
He does indeed seem desperate. But I believe that he is waiting for the 2026 car and hopes that Ferrari will not only achieve the jackpot with this car, but that the Scuderia will also build a car that he can handle better.
Helmut Marko told F1 Insider
Lewis Hamilton needs to get his act together at Ferrari
The seven-time world champion has tried to get the most out of the Ferrari chassis. However, he is yet to get fully accustomed to the different switch settings, having only driven Mercedes-powered cars in his career previously. Moreover, Hamilton’s facing trouble even matching teammate Charles Leclerc with the Monegasque being much more confident on and off-track. Former F1 driver Ralf Schumacher pointed out that the Briton was running out of time to get back to his old form.

Ralf Schumacher had similar thoughts to Helmut Marko, highlighting Hamilton’s desperation in recent weeks. The German claimed that he understood the situation the 40-year-old was facing. Schumacher acknowledged that in such a scenario, it would be draining for even someone like Lewis Hamilton to continue racing. Moreover, the former F1 driver asserted that the seven-time world champion will need to get his act together as soon as possible or he could be forced to call it quits at Ferrari.
Lewis seems perplexed and desperate, both in what he says and in his body language. I know from my own experience that at some point you wake up in the morning and realise that there is no point in continuing to drive. You don’t want to stand in the way of your team. I hope Lewis gets his act together, but I’m afraid he’ll hang up his helmet before his contract ends.
Ralf Schumacher said, as quoted by PlanetF1
Certainly, Lewis Hamilton needs to improve. The Ferrari star can no longer make excuses for his downturn in performance this year. The Scuderia has given him ample support so far. However, if results don’t come, tensions within Maranello could escalate. As such, the Tifosi would be hoping that Hamilton manages to bounce back in the next couple of races.
