Red Bull junior Liam Lawson has quickly become one of the main talking points following the 2024 US GP. In his first RB outing of the year, he impressed one and all and even finished ahead of senior driver Yuki Tsunoda.
Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is immensely impressed with the New Zealander. He has thus indicated that Liam Lawson is an extremely bright prospect within the Red Bull pool of drivers.
Lawson managed a well-deserved P9 finish at the Circuit of the Americas.
The 81-year-old veteran of F1 has left no stone unturned in applauding Lawson. Seeing his COTA exploits, Marko genuinely feels the 22-year-old is someone Red Bull needs to keep a close eye on in order to have a prosperous future at the pinnacle of motor racing.
Liam Lawson drove an ‘exceptional race’ at COTA
While Helmut Marko has showered praise on Liam Lawson, the same is the case with the Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. The Brit is also in awe of the mighty drive that Lawson produced in the 56-lap US GP.
Lawson made his way up from P19 to finish in the points-giving positions in the fiercely contested event.
The 2024 F1 season has only five races remaining on the calendar. Lawson is yet to secure his future on the grid for the 2025 season and thus, he has to keep coming up with COTA-like performances until the end of the year.
Moreover, if he is able to do so, he could even get considered for the Red Bull seat alongside the reigning world champion Max Verstappen. But, it will not be easy for Lawson to get the better of Tsunoda in all the remaining races as the Japanese driver is in top form this year. Several esteemed personalities are seeing the 2025 Red Bull seat as a straight-up two-way fight between the current RB drivers.
