Liam Lawson came back very strongly in the USA and finished ninth, and I was also impressed by the way he steadily improved in Mexico. The New Zealander would have finished in the top ten in qualifying if it hadn’t been for the lap that Tsunoda messed up. So far, Liam Lawson has proven his qualities and confirmed the trust placed in him.

Perez must now win races and secure podiums inevitably in order to ascertain his future with the Milton Keynes outfit. A failure in doing so might witness the six-time race winner get succeeded by a 22-year-old talent.

Former F1 racer tips Liam Lawson to partner Max Verstappen in near future

Le Mans winner Mark Blundell has made his choice for the most effective driver lineup for Red Bull in the coming seasons. Max Verstappen has a contract until the end of 2028, which leaves Sergio Perez’s seat in question.

I also think that the next generation of talent will help me drive the team forward and get the best out of my other driver who is a world champion and keep him honest. I’d lean towards putting Lawson in that car.

Mark Blundell told AceOdds

Blundell feels that the championship-winning team must now focus on nurturing younger talents. He claims that being more youthful might also help Max Verstappen in fighting for titles with the coming years.

Perez, who has been a Formula 1 racer since 2011, has been one of the prime reasons for Red Bull’s fall in the title race. The team is now focused on helping Verstappen, who seeks to attain his fourth consecutive driver’s world championship this season.
