Red Bull Technical Advisor Helmut Marko has spoken highly of the upgrades brought by the team at the Hungarian Grand Prix. Marko has said that the upgrades have indeed borne fruit for the RB20 around the 4.3 km track.
Red Bull has been a vulnerable force this campaign, despite leading the title race. The Milton-Keynes outfit has been outpaced by the lights of Mercedes, Ferrari, and McLaren, who have shown formidable pace.
Helmut Marko recently spoke of a revamped floor and front wing upgrade for the RB20 coming into Budapest. The 81-year-old then concluded that the upgrades worked in favor of Red Bull in Friday’s practice, which is a good sign for their hopes.
They were quite big upgrades from Red Bull and they actually worked from the first moment. That is already different from the other three upgrades we had. They were much smaller, but therefore did not have much effect. Things are going in the right direction now, I am convinced that we can still find a few tenths. We are definitely fighting for the victory.Helmut Marko told Viaplay
The Milton-Keynes-based team has not been victorious since their win at Barcelona a few weeks ago. They will now try to perform better in today’s qualifying to secure a convincing grid start for the main race.
Max Verstappen labels Hungarian GP as an important weekend
Red Bull driver Max Verstappen has deemed the current changes in the RB20 as the biggest of this campaign. Verstappen has thereafter spoken of the need for all teams to perform well this weekend.
We brought stuff [earlier this year] but they were not particularly big, I would say. So this one is a bit bigger than what we have brought already. So I think for everyone, this is an important, important weekend.Max Verstappen told the media including RacingNews365
Max Verstappen has triumphed seven times this campaign and is keen on winning a fourth consecutive championship. However, Red Bull has not been the fastest car on the grid and will be desperate to find additional pace on the track.
The 26-year-old finished on the front row after during both practice sessions on Friday and will be looking to build on his good performance. Up next awaits an exciting qualifying, which will witness the various F1 teams set the pace around Hungary for Sunday.
