Helmut Marko claimed that Sergio Perez‘s two-year contract extension was a decision made by the team to bring some stability. Red Bull’s car in Montreal became way to hard to handle on the kerbs. This in turn resulted in a DNF for the Mexican. However, teammate Max Verstappen managed to drive the car in his favor and won the Canadian GP. Marko explained the things they planned before extending Checo’s contract didn’t turned out as it was discussed.
We decided to extend his contract to create stability within our team, but things didn't go as planned.Helmut Marko said in an interview with oe24
The 81-year-old reckoned, Perez needs to prove his worth to the team and everyone with the three important races coming up. These races will be conducted on a proper race tracks, where the Mexican can show what he’s capable of and prove how skilled he is as a racer. Marko reckoned this as the best chance for Perez to demonstrate his abilities and shine on the track.

Helmut Marko hopes a Red Bull win in Barcelona will make them ‘strong’ to beat in other races
Helmut Marko claimed that if Red Bull performs well in Barcelona, they’ll continue to be strong in the next races in Austria and Silverstone. As the Spanish GP circuit has a blend of high and medium speed corners which truly test the cars to their limit. Max Verstappen recently mentioned that the team was looking to maximize performance this weekend.
This rule of thumb should apply to us too. If we are strong in Barcelona, then hopefully we will be strong next week in Austria and a week later in Silverstone.Helmut Marko explained
The 81-year-old reckoned, these three races will be crucial in determining overall balance of power in the championship. Marko emphasized that the team is pushing their limits in preparation of these events, everyone in Red Bull is working extremely hard. Sergio Perez had serious car damage during the races in Monaco and Montreal which was a great setback for the entire team.
These three races will say a lot about the true balance of power. That is why our people are working to the limit these days. In addition, Sergio Perez badly damaged his car in Monaco and Montreal.Helmut Marko added
