Sergio Perez‘s future at Red Bull has been a major point of discussion in the F1 paddock. The Mexican driver’s struggles forced the Austrian team to plan an evaluation after the Belgian GP. Now, Dr. Helmut Marko admitted that Perez’s poor run on Sunday might further hamper his prospects.

Perez had put in a decent performance in Qualifying and started the race from the front row. Unfortunately, Sergio Perez simply lacked the pace to fight at the front and fell down the order. This forced the Mexican driver to finish even behind Max Verstappen who had started from eleventh place due to a grid penalty.

After the end of the race, Helmut Marko asserted that such a result was not expected from Sergio Perez. The Red Bull consultant claimed that Perez completely collapsed during Sunday’s race with a poor run on his final stint. It must be noted that Checo’s future will be decided shortly with a Red Bull meeting supposed to be held on Monday.

That's not what we expected from him. He completely collapsed, especially in the last stint.

Christian Horner claims things ‘did not work out’ for Sergio Perez

Christian Horner and Red Bull have tried to support Sergio Perez throughout his struggles in the past two seasons. However, after Perez’s eighth place result, Horner admitted that the team needed to take a ‘good look’ into Checo’s performance.

Checo from P2 to P8 but with the fastest lap, we need to take a good look at that.

The Red Bull team boss claimed that the race would not have a major impact on anything. Horner highlighted that McLaren managed to gain a lead of a few points over Red Bull due to Perez’s disappointing result. Christian Horner reckoned that things did not work out for Checo on Sunday after a great performance in Qualifying.

Today won't impact anything, with Checo obviously we need both cars scoring, you can see McLaren has taken another 6,7 points away and we need to stop that... We need Checo, up there yesterday qualifying is great, but unfortunately it didn't quite work out today.
Christian Horner stated

Certainly, things might be getting worse for Sergio Perez. The Mexican driver failed to make the most of a good opportunity this weekend. Red Bull could finally have ran out of patience with Checo and might make a harsh decision in the coming days. Fans would hope that Perez stays at Milton Keynes at least for the remainder of this season.
