Lewis Hamilton shocked the sporting world after announcing his move to Ferrari for 2025. The seven-time world champion will leave Mercedes after racing for the team since 2013. Now, former F1 champion Jacques Villeneuve has reckoned that the Briton might already be focusing on his future at Maranello.
Hamilton is having a woeful final season with the Silver Arrows. The 39-year-old did take a fairytale victory at the British GP, but things have gone downhill since. Villeneuve insisted that Lewis Hamilton‘s heart and head had gone elsewhere, hinting that the Briton was waiting for his Ferrari switch.
The Canadian claimed that Lewis Hamilton was aware that he wouldn’t be able to win a championship with Mercedes this year. Thus, the 39-year-old did not put all his energy into building the car for the future when he won’t be on the team. Jacques Villeneuve was convinced that Hamilton was just finishing his contract with the Brackley-based team.
Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari move the ‘biggest’ for any driver
Scuderia Ferrari is the most iconic name in the world of racing. Jacques Villeneuve highlighted that joining the Italian team was the biggest move a driver can make in Formula 1. The former F1 champion claimed that winning another title with Mercedes would not have been useful to Lewis Hamilton. On the other hand, clinching a championship with Ferrari would be his greatest achievement.
Certainly, Lewis Hamilton is keen on fighting for the championship with Maranello next year. The 39-year-old remains hungry as ever to take a record-breaking eighth title. However, the Briton must first bid farewell to the Silver Arrows after the final three races of 2024.
