The Singapore GP was quite an eventful race, especially between the McLarens of Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Norris was able to gain two places heading into the first corner of Lap 1. However, the Briton collided into Piastri in the process and caused the latter to lose his P3 positon.
Following some back and forth on the team radio, McLaren did not intervene and let the two drivers fight. Now, 2009 F1 champ Jenson Button how the 25-year-old won more than just the position on the track in Singapore.
Following the P3 finish at the Singapore GP, Lando Norris reduced the point disparity to the championship leader Oscar Piastri further. With just six races left in the season, the Briton is now just 22 points adrift of the title lead. As such, after deeming a risky move against Piastri at Lap 1, Norris achieved a lot more.
Jenson Button asserted that the P3 finish was quite a big deal even though he did not win the race. Button recalled that Lando Norris has taken points off of Oscar Piastri’s lead since the past two races. Speaking on the move at Turn 3, the 2009 F1 champion insisted that the mental game was more important that the three points that Norris gained over his Aussie counterpart.
For Lando, this is quite a big deal, He took points out of Oscar at the last two races. That move at Turn 3, I think in the mental game, was more important than three points.
Jenson Button told Sky Sports F1.
Jenson Button predicted that Lando Norris must have been very happy coming out of the Turn 3 after gaining one position over Oscar Piastri. Button highlighted that both McLaren drivers are used to winning races, but a P3 finish was good enough as he further cut the point deficit to the leader. Norris gained the extra points by overtaking his teammate with a daring move, which in itself was a great feat.
He would have been very happy coming out of that. They are both used to winning races but he’s third and he seemed happy because he took points off his team-mate and overtook him to do that.
Jenson Button added.
Martin Brundle asserts McLaren’s ‘ground rules’ changed for Lando Norris
Lando Norris’ aggressive move against Oscar Piastri could have definitely turned out to be much worse than it did. Regardless, nothing serious happened between the two and both drivers were able to continue their race as intended. However, after McLaren declined to help Piastri get back the position from Norris, F1 pundit Martin Brundle asserted that the ground rules at the team definitely changed now.

Martin Brundle asserted that Lando Norris’ move against Oscar Piastri was certainly punchy, opportunistic and aggressive. However, he accepted that it was a motor race. Regardless, the ground rules within the team had now been reset.
Brundle reckoned that he couldn’t see any more driver swaps on track between the two drivers in the coming races. Piastri is likely to deny any team orders to give up positions anymore as he recently put forth his opinion on the team’s intentions between the two drivers.
I thought it was punchy, opportunistic, aggressive, but this is a motor race. The ground rules have just been reset. I can’t see how McLaren would swap that round or how they could justify (swapping) it. But Oscar will say, ‘ok, then, that’s it. That’s how we’re going racing.’

The 2025 season of Formula 1 has been exciting, especially at the forefront. Even though the year nears completion, a clear driver’s title winner hasn’t been decided yet. Even Max Verstappen seems to be back in the mix for contending for the title down the season. Hence, it will be interesting to witness which driver manages to put forth the best possible results and emerge victorious in the title.
