Max Verstappen is arguably the biggest name in Formula 1 right now. The Dutch driver has dominated the sport in recent years and won four titles in a row. The 27-year-old’s father Jos Verstappen has now insisted that the Red Bull star is an ideal role model.

Over the years, Max Verstappen has gained a reputation of speaking his mind. In 2024, the reigning world champion had a fallout with the FIA over a swearing ban. The Dutchman resorted to just one-word responses in protest.

Jos Verstappen asserted that his son was not arrogant, rather he just spoke directly. The former F1 driver highlighted that the younger generation needs a role model like Max Verstappen, who speaks his mind openly instead of acting behind people’s backs.

He’s [Max Verstappen] not arrogant, but direct .. we always talk about role models for young people. i ask now: what is more of a role model? if you act behind people’s backs or openly say what you think and always stand by your personal values?

Jos Verstappen told F1-insider

Jos Verstappen extremely proud of Max Verstappen’s ‘bluntness’

The 52-year-old highlighted that the Red Bull star was true to himself in public. The reigning world champion never backs down from being blunt with his opinion when needed. I can only say: how max behaves in public, how he bluntly says his opinion – that makes me just as extremely proud of my son as his sporting successes.

Jos Verstappen added

Certainly, Max Verstappen has grown comfortable with his no-nonsense approach when it comes to speaking his mind. The Dutch driver will not change this approach anytime soon. Thus, fans can expect more controversies erupting over what he says in the future.
