Max Verstappen‘s father Jos Verstappen played a pivotal role in preparing the Red Bull star for Formula 1. The former F1 driver is infamous for his harsh training methods for his son. Now, the senior Verstappen has admitted that it might’ve been challenging for the 27-year-old.

Jos Verstappen acknowledged that he was not the easiest person when it came to training his son. He mentioned that he demanded a lot from Max Verstappen during his early days in karting. Though, the 52-year-old claimed that the reigning world champion was mentally capable of handling such harsh measures.

I know I’m not the easiest person to deal with and I demanded a lot from Max when he was young. But he could handle it all. He has always been very strong mentally.

The Red Bull star shocked the sporting world when he was signed by Scuderia Toro Rosso for the 205 F1 season, at the age of 17. Jos Verstappen reckoned that this proved how far along his son had come as a teenager against his rivals. As such a feat would’ve been unthinkable previously.

I think it helped a lot to teach Max a lot early on, because his debut in Formula 1 showed that he was already very far along as a teenager.

At the age of 27, Verstappen still has a lot of potential to further succeed in and outside of Formula 1 in the coming years.
