Charles Leclerc is joined by Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari this year. The seven-time world champion will try to get the upper hand on the Monegasque driver. As such, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has advised Leclerc to play a smart game against the 40-year-old.
High expectations are laid on Hamilton’s arrival. The British driver is seen as the one who can finally end Ferrari’s long title drought in Formula 1. The F1 star has labeled his switch as a leap of faith as he hopes to gain his form back after an underwhelming final stint at Mercedes.
Montoya asserted that Charles Leclerc needs to be smart. The 26-year-old must be clever enough to stick to Lewis Hamilton‘s game instead of going directly against the Briton. Juan Pablo Montoya claimed that Leclerc has a history of becoming super insistent when things don’t go his way at the Italian team.
Leclerc must be smart. He has to play this game well, he has to stick to Lewis’ game and not go against him because, instead, Charles often has a tendency to become super insistent with the team when things don’t go well for him.
Juan Pablo Montoya said on MontoyAS podcast
Confrontations to be different for Charles Leclerc with Lewis Hamilton
The former McLaren driver pointed out Charles Leclerc would often express his frustration to the media when he had a problem with Carlos Sainz. Though, things would be far different when it comes to such confrontations now. As Leclerc will be criticizing Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton is no stranger to mind games, having aced intra-team rivalries during his tenure at Mercedes.

For Leclerc, it will be very different to have certain verbal confrontations with someone like Hamilton compared to when he had them with a person like Carlos Sainz.
Juan Pablo Montoya added
Certainly, Ferrari will be one of the most exciting teams in the upcoming season. It is likely that the relationship between Hamilton and Leclerc will remain cordial at least in the first few rounds. However, conflict could arise if the two end up pushing one another on-track.
