Charles Leclerc has a new teammate at Ferrari this year, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. The latter will try to rally the team around him in his first season. However, former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya has hinted that Leclerc can keep things in his favor if he played his cards right.
Lewis Hamilton wants to win an unprecedented eighth world title during his stint at Ferrari. Montoya insisted that such prospects will depend on how comfortable the Briton is with the car. Moreover, the Scuderia will have to produce a quick car this season.
Juan Pablo Montoya reckoned that if Charles Leclerc needed to manage things cleverly this year. The Monegasque driver must ensure that he doesn’t hinder Hamilton while outperforming him. This would inevitably lead to Leclerc gaining the support of the Italian team against the seven-time world champion.
Lewis Hamilton won’t stay at Ferrari ‘forever’
Hamilton joins Ferrari at the age of 40. Montoya emphasized that the British driver can only race at Ferrari for so long before retiring. On the other hand, 27-year-old Charles Leclerc has many more years in the sport. As such, the former F1 driver reckoned that it was important for Leclerc to retain the backing of the Prancing Horse.
Certainly, Charles Leclerc faces the biggest challenge of his career this season against Lewis Hamilton. Although, the Monegasque had managed to outperform Sebastian Vettel as his teammate in the past. Yet, it will be crucial for Leclerc to not let Hamilton have the upper hand once the season kicks off in Melbourne.
