Four times F1 world champion Max Verstappen has found himself in the middle of controversy, as he continues to slam FIA over the 2026 regulations and the failure of the car. The poor form of Red Bull is making his more frustrated. While the whole racing community was behind the Dutchman as the start of the season, some of them are turning on him as the complaining continues.

Former F1 driver Juan Pablo Montoya is the most recent personal to publicly call out the No:3 driver. On his recent interview, JPM urged the champion driver to quit, if he remains unhappy and also called him out for making too many public comments, laced with threats, instead of talking directly to the official.

If you’re unhappy with being an F1, you should leave. Have the courage of your convictions. If you’re unhappy with the rules, then talk to people instead of threatening that you’re going to leave. That’s not going to help that much.

Juan Pablo Montoya said recently.

Furthermore, Juan Pablo Montoya admitted that if he was in the position of Max Verstappen, he would have stop making the public comments and admits how some of his frustrations are the product of the poor car Red Bull has fielded for him. But that doesn’t warrant the public complaints, and no one is bigger than the sport.

If I were him, I’d shut up, deal with it and admit that he’s in a shitty car and admit he’s frustrated because his car is a piece of crap that is 20 kilos overweight and it’s going to be uncompetitive all year…. At the end of the day, nobody’s bigger than the sport.

Juan Pablo Montoya use marriage analogy to explain the situation

Further talking in the same conversation, JPM used marriage analogy to explain the situation. He highlighted how in bad marriage, the partner will abuse the other, publicly complain and still leave. The Dutchman seems to be in a similar position at the moment.

It’s like when you’re in a marriage, and the other person doesn’t want to be with you, what are you going to do? If the other person decides you’re not the person they want to spend the rest of their life with, whether you want to try to keep them or not, they’re going to be unhappy. And they’re going to grab you by the ba**s and use you, and then still leave.

Juan Pablo Montoya said.

He asserted that Verstappen or anyone else is not bigger the sport, regardless of the fanfare. Montoya pointed out that if the veteran quit the sport over his frustration with the regulation, the sport will move on without him, and a comeback would be tough.

The sport is bigger than one person. And it is. However big a person he is, the sport is bigger. The problem with leaving, if you really are just leaving to put pressure on to change regulations, the sport is going to move without you. And when you want to come back, there might not be a place for you. You need to know that when you’re leaving, it’s for good. I did.

Juan Pablo Montoya added.

As the former racer pointed out that Max Verstappen can’t afford to quit without hurting his legacy, but at the same time losing the veteran won’t be good for the sport as well. It would be interesting to see how everything is going to playout for the racer in the coming days.
