Fernando Alonso started his F1 career in 2001. Since then, the Spanish driver achieve considerable success with two world championships. However, former F1 driver Karun Chandhok insisted that the 43-year-old could’ve had many more titles in his bag.
Chandhok recalled Alonso’s career achievements with the Spaniard defeating Michael Schumacher in two back-to-back seasons in 2005 and 2006. Fernando Alonso narrowly lost the 2007 title during a chaotic stint at McLaren. The Indian driver pointed out that 2008 was a decent year for the 43-year-old despite not being in title contention.
if you look at what he’s done so far. World Champion in 2005 and 2006, and stayed on the verge of winning the title in 2007. The 2008 Renault was not great, but it was still up there and achieving results.

Additionally, Karun Chandhok emphasized that looking back at statistics, it was easy to see that Fernando Alonso lost multiple world championships due to a total margin of eighth points. Chandhok insisted that if things had gone in Alonso’s favor, he would’ve won the 2007, 2010, and the 2012 titles. This would’ve made him a five-time world champion.
If you look at the years following the statistics, I think he is eight points away from being five times world champion, Fernando, if you add 2010 and 2012 to 2007.
Karun Chandhok added
Fernando Alonso’s life revolves around racing
The two-time world champion is the oldest driver on the grid. Yet, he has shown no signs of slowing down. Karun Chandhok asserted that Alonso has managed to continue his career over the age of 40 due to his sheer passion for motorsport, including the Dakar rally and Le Mans. Chandhok reckoned that the life of the Aston Martin driver revolved around the world of racing.

He loves to go outside and run the Dakar, Le Mans and all these kinds of things, but fundamentally his life revolves around going around in circles.
Karun Chandhok noted
Certainly, Fernando Alonso remains as determined to win in F1 as he was over a decade ago. The 43-year-old has grand ambitions for the 2026 season with Aston Martin, courtesy of Adrian Newey’s arrival. However, the Spanish driver will first focus completely on the upcoming season.
