Max Verstappen is one of the biggest figures in the F1 paddock. The four-time world champion’s comments often spark controversy. Now, former Red Bull driver Karun Chandhok has emphasized that the 27-year-old was not deterred to speak in the ever-increasing political correctness in society.
Karun Chandhok highlighted that in recent years, the world has become more politically correct. This stands true for all industries including automotive and Formula 1. The former Indian driver asserted that this was good in many ways.
Nevertheless, Chandhok declared that someone like Max Verstappen still spoke whatever he has on his mind. The reigning world champion was simply not afraid to express himself. This has led to a controversial standoff between Verstappen and the FIA over the course of the past season. The Dutchman himself has talked about political correctness in the sport.
F1 drivers ‘very open’ about themselves nowadays
Further, the F1 presenter gave the example of McLaren’s Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. He asserted that the two drivers would freely express themselves and mention if they had a good or bad day to the media. Chandhok insisted that drivers nowadays have become more open to the public as the world has changed over the years.
Certainly, Max Verstappen is unlikely to change this year. The Red Bull star will remain unbothered by any reaction to his comments. Rather, the four-time world champion will be more focused on fighting for a fifth consecutive title in the upcoming season against the likes of Norris and Piastri.
