Mercedes decided to give an opportunity to the F1 rookie Kimi Antonelli to make his debut in Formula 1. The 18-year-old was let to drive in the free practice sessions of the Italian GP in George Russell‘s car. However, Antonelli lost control at the high-speed Parabolic corner just ten minutes into the session. This resulted in a heavy impact that registered around 52g and crashed into the barriers
