Lando Norris admits McLaren not winning races “any time soon”

McLaren was one of the main contenders after Red Bull for race wins throughout the majority of the second half 2023 season. The Papaya team had a brilliant development plan that helped them go from the back of the grid to the front.
Following their impressive development last year, there were a lot of expectations set form them for the 2024 season. But the team as of now seems to be behind in terms of performance in comparison to the dominant Red Bulls and Ferrari’s. Following this, Lando Norris was asked about whether his resurgent team can win races this season.
Not any time soon – that’s for sure!“I think we can [win with the] right place, right time – if we improve the car how we need too.
Lando Norris said during an interview with Motorsport.com
The Briton jokingly added how there’s still a while until McLaren contends for race wins, looking at their car’s current state. But, he concluded by saying that if they develop their car well, they will definitely have a fair shot at winning a race this season.
Lando Norris shares insights into McLaren’s development strategy
Following McLaren’s resurgence mid-way through last season the Papaya team was expected to win races this year. But, the team has regressed a little in terms of pure performance and seems to lack the extra edge needed to win races. Following this, Lando Norris spoke about the development strategy that his team needs to follow in order to fight for race wins and podiums consistently.

But we know the issues, we know what we have to improve and if we can improve them, I think Andrea is right – we can win races this year and we can be competitive with these other two teams ahead of us. But, if we can, then I’m confident we can have some good races.Lando Norris said.
The Surrey-based team is set to bring their first upgrades to the MCL38 during the Miami Grand Prix followed by their first big upgrade package at Imola. If they do manage to develop like last year, it’s definitely going to be interesting to see how they compare to Red Bull and Ferrari.
