The McLarens of Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris put forth an extremely dominant performance at the Belgian GP and maximized points over the race. Both drivers finished in P1 and P2 as Norris couldn’t quite bridge the gap to Piastri by the end of the race. The 25-year-old lost his lead from the pole position early on in the race and failed to trump his Australian counterpart to achieve the race win. As such, the Briton delivered an uninterested statement on his loss against the 24-year-old at Spa-Francorchamps.
Lando Norris looked dominant over the Spa-Francorchamps circuit as his performance over the weekend remained quite impressive. The 25-year-old had a great shot at achieving the race win as he started from the pole position. However, the treacherous conditions of the Belgian GP caused Norris to lose his lead to Oscar Piastri at the beginning of the race. Norris also committed multiple mistakes on the track as he ultimately finished behind Piastri with a gap of 3.415 seconds off the lead.
Lando Norris is already known to be too critical of himself and to treat his mistakes on track with much severity. As such, Norris wouldn’t be too impressed by his performance at the Belgian GP as he lost the race despite starting on pole position. Because of this, the Briton insisted that he should’ve performed much better and not committed the mistakes that he did.
Norris delivered a ‘should’ve, would’ve, could’ve’ verdict on avoiding the mistakes and securing the race win against Oscar Piastri. Despite the McLaren challenger being the fastest on the grid, the Briton couldn’t trump his teammate. The 25-year-old insisted that Piastri deserved the race win ultimately, as he would now review his own performances. Regardless, he pointed out that he was glad with a one-two finish as Woking achieved this finish after many, many years in Formula 1.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Oscar deserved it, I’ll review my things but still happy for the team, another 1-2 and our first 1-2 here for many, many years.
Lando Norris said in a post-race interview

Lando Norris pinpoints where Oscar Piastri was ‘more committed’
The rain-laden circuit of the Belgian GP made it difficult for multiple drivers to keep up with their original race strategies as they suffered from uncertain tire degradation. Oscar Piastri still performed much better with little to no mistakes on track and clinched the race win from Lando Norris. As such, the 25-year-old revealed the areas where Piastri committed more and improved his race pace.

Lando Norris reiterated that Oscar Piastri did a great job on Sunday, which helped him achieve the race win. Norris pointed out that the Aussie committed more through the Eau Rouge corner and got the slipstream before overtaking the former for the race lead. This helped Piastri attain his ‘much deserved’ race victory even though the 25-year-old started from pole position.
Oscar just did a good job, nothing more to say. Committed more through Eau Rouge, got the slipstream and the run. That was it, nothing else I could do at that point. Oscar deserved it today.

Oscar Piastri’s lead in the drivers’ standings has increased to 16 points as there are still 11 races to go till the end of the 2025 season. McLaren has built a substantial gap to the rivals in the standings behind them, as they could relax a little for now. However, Lando Norris will need to give it his everything in the latter half of the year as his championship ambitions are far from over, especially against Piastri.
