Lando Norris has delivered impressive performances in recent races thanks to the fast McLaren car this season. The 24-year-old consistently scored points over the weekend, which helped him closing in on Max Verstappen. However, during the past few races, the Briton failed to achieve another victory due to multiple mistakes. Due to this, Norris has been highly self-critical of his recent performances. He believes that it’s important to strike a balance between self-criticism and self-appreciation.
Lando Norris acknowledged that he needs to adjust how hard he is on himself after recent races. His confession is coming after ex-Haas Team Principal Guenther Steiner‘s criticism of his attitude. While he understood the importance of being self-critical, he also realized it’s essential to maintain balance. However, he also believed that it’s important not to be too lenient with himself, as pushing for improvement is crucial. Therefore, the Briton thought he should remain more balanced in reviewing his performances.
I think I need to potentially be slightly better balanced with it. I don't think it's right that I'm ever easy on myself.Lando Norris said via RacingNews365
Lando Norris stated he might ease up a bit, but he never wanted to be too lenient on himself. He believed finding the right balance of self-criticism is a personal choice that each person must determine themselves. The Briton mentioned he values the advice from experienced ones and takes their inputs seriously when it comes to improving his performance on track. Hence, he acknowledged handling self-criticism and personal growth is something he needs to navigate on his own.
Maybe easier than what I am now, but never easy. And again, this is personal preference. I've always taken on board what people say, especially from people with knowledge.Lando Norris added.
Lando Norris claims he feels no pleasure in smiling after a bad race
Lando Norris highlighted that he feels no joy when he finishes the race and has to smile, knowing the race went bad. He mentioned that smiling or pretending to be happy after a poor performance is completely meaningless.
He understands this is crucial in creating a positive image on TV and in the media, but he doesn’t care about that. The 26-year-old mentioned he has reached a point in life where he no longer worries about how others perceive his reaction. Therefore, for Norris what truly matters is performing better in races and all other things are irrelevant to him.
I have absolutely no pleasure in being able to come out of a race and smile when I know I didn't do well enough. Zero, it doesn't make me happy one bit. I know it gives the perception to TV and stuff, but I don't mind. I've also got to a point from that side of things, it doesn't really affect me.Lando Norris stated.
Certainly, Lando Norris stated he would never feel happy or satisfied if the race didn’t fall in their favor. What matters to him is actual performance and not others opinions and reactions. Fans hope the upcoming races helps the 26-year-old in scoring strong points for the team and closing the gap in constructors championship.
