McLaren has risen to be the most dominant chassis on the grid mid-way through the 2024 season. Woking overtook Red Bull in terms of performance and has started scoring some highly impressive results. The Hungarian GP was just another showcase of a massive improvement in performance for McLaren. However, the results came at a cost of inter-driver drama towards the end as Lando Norris was reluctant to give the race victory to Oscar Piastri.

Lando Norris scored pole position for the Hungarian GP and had a great start to the race. However, the Briton immediately lost P1 to Oscar Piastri in the beginning.

This caused the Aussie driver to maintain the lead towards the end for the race win. Anyhow, a botched strategy from McLaren caused Piastri to fall behind Norris.

Due to this, Norris was unwilling to give the victory away to Piastri. Regardless, the Briton gave up the position towards the end allowing the 23-year-old to win the race. The driver swap orders were carried out after much back and forth over team radio between the Englishman and the team. However, despite the controversial victory, Norris was spotted congratulating Piastri over his maiden victory in F1.

Lando Norris gave a ‘thumbs up and claps’ to Oscar Piastri over the latter’s maiden win

Lando Norris proved his point of being the faster driver in the team after not giving up the position so easily. Regardless, the team scored a highly impressive one-two finish at the Hungarian GP and Norris was delighted by it.

Norris was spotted clapping in his McLaren chassis during the in-lap of the Hungarian GP. Subsequently, the Briton gave a thumbs up to Oscar Piastri due to the latter’s first win in F1. However, the team would still discuss the issues after the race proceedings are done.

The 2024 season is extremely interesting due to the abundance of competition in the front order of the grid. McLaren is continuously closing the gap on Red Bull in the constructors’ championship after already overtaking Ferrari in the championship. Hence the remainder of the season will witness Woking’s attempts to oust Red Bull from the top spot.
