Lando Norris turned some sore eyes towards him following his Lap 1 antics against Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen at the Singapore GP. The Briton achieved a great reaction to the lights going out and was quick off the racing line. A quick start and a daring move against Piastri helped him gain two spots in the beginning. Despite seemingly being in the wrong, Norris opened up on his antics and provided his side of the story.

McLaren refused to intervene between Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris even though the latter collided with his teammate to move up on position in the pecking order. Norris believed that the slippery track conditions of the Singapore GP caused him to bump into his Australian counterpart.

Even the FIA investigated the incident between the two and cleared both of them of any wrongdoing. As such, the Briton recalled the race incident and fired some shots at the critics who were not much aware of racing at the pinnacle of motorsport.

Lando Norris insisted that he could look back at the race incident and wonder if he could do something differently or in a better manner. The Briton claimed that anyone on the grid would have done the same as him, and he wasn’t at fault.

Norris pointed out that if people criticized him for putting his car in a ‘big gap’ ahead of Oscar Piastri, then the critics did not deserve to be in Formula 1. The 25-year-old reassured that he did not do anything wrong and that he deserved the P3 finish ahead of Piastri at the Singapore GP.

I might look at it and think there’s something else I could have done, or could have done better. Anyone on the grid would have done exactly the same thing as what I did, so I think if you fault me for just going up the inside and putting my car on the inside of a big gap, then yeah, I think you shouldn’t be in Formula 1. I don’t think there was anything wrong that I did.

Lando Norris reveals that he ‘cannot afford’ any mistakes against Oscar Piastri

Following a P3 finish at the Singapore GP, Lando Norris is now just 22 points adrift of the championship lead to Oscar Piastri. With just six races left until the completion of this season, things will definitely get interesting by the season finale race. Responding to people claiming that the Briton took some untoward risks that could have put either of the drivers at a disadvantage, Norris pondered over the ground reality.

Lando Norris asserted that it was indeed him who could not afford to lose anything as compared to Oscar Piastri. The Briton believed that he had much more to lose if he put himself at risk against his teammate. Still, Norris reckoned that he would watch out to see how he could do a better job at teamwork in the coming races. Finally, the 25-year-old pointed out how even the FIA cleared him of any wrongdoing, and they believed the incident to be purely a racing incident.

I’m the one who can’t afford anything compared to him [Piastri], and I would put myself at risk just as much if that kind of thing happens, you know? So, yeah, I’ll see what I can do better next time. But the FIA obviously thought it was fine, and the team did too, so that’s it.

McLaren has already won the constructors’ championship this season and can put that worry behind them. The team just needs to focus on helping both drivers achieve the best results and steer clear of any interpersonal issues on track. The season so far has remained pleasant for Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris. However, the final six races will be where both drivers will go to war and give it their all to come out on top in the title standings.
