McLaren has been one of the best teams so far this season against the likes of Red Bull, Mercedes, and Ferrari. The Lando Norris-led outfit has, however, failed to stand atop the world championship standings.
Lando Norris has scored 199 points for the Papayas and stands second in the driver’s championship. The 24-year-old, despite his exemplary performances, has won only a single race. Norris’s failure to notch greater victories ultimately came down to his mistakes at the crucial moments of a race.
The British driver has thereafter claimed that his motive will be to introspect and rebuild on his weak points during the summer break. Norris further added that he currently lacks what it takes to be an active contender for the title this year.
I'll do what I can, already yesterday, today, tomorrow, when we come back before Zandvoort, all-time and during the summer holiday, time where I can review and kind of reflect on my good things and also the things I need to and have to improve if I want to be a contender. At the minute, I simply don't have what it takes because I've clearly made too many mistakes.Lando Norris said in an interview with SkySports F1

Despite the 24-year-old’s tendency to make mistakes, he has every now and then showcased his capabilities in an F1 car. He will now seek to tap into his potential over the summer break to make a fresh start in Zandvoort at the Dutch GP.
Andrea Stella refutes comments on McLaren having the best car this season
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella has played down the high praises of his team amidst their promising run this year. Stella has regarded the top four teams as having cars with similar pace and prowess, given the varying track conditions this season.
I'm not surprised, but I keep receiving observations that McLaren is the best car. I always keep putting some water on the fire and say 'There are four cars that are pretty much at the same level. There's a bit of variability, which is a function of the track, a function even of the conditions to some extent.Andrea Stella told the media including RacingNews365
McLaren has been the first of the three teams, namely Ferrari and Mercedes, to battle at par with Red Bull this season. Andrea Stella has since claimed that all four teams have advantages of their own when factored into a given set of parameters, such as tire usage and weather conditions.
The Woking-based team’s turnaround in the last 12 months has been commendable, as they went from fighting for the top five to winning multiple races this season. They will now hope to continue on an upward trajectory, eyeing their first championship win since 2007.
