Lando Norris shocked the entire paddock when he came into the lead of the Miami GP after a Safety Car. The British driver managed to fend off Max Verstappen for most of the Grand Prix. After taking his first-ever win in Formula 1, Norris revealed his conversation with former US President Donald Trump.

Trump was invited by McLaren for the Miami GP. The American politician even met FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem before the start of the race. Lando Norris claimed that Donald Trump congratulated him after the race. The British driver was honored to be respected by the former US President who took time off his busy schedule to attend the race.

That was an honour. For someone like [Donald Trump] this to take time out of their life to pay respect for what you've done.

Moreover, Norris revealed that Trump proclaimed himself as the Briton’s lucky charm. Previously, ex-Red Bull driver Karun Chandhok had joked about such a possibility. Nevertheless, Lando Norris was happy to be supported by Donald Trump. Although, the McLaren driver was uncertain if the former US President will visit more races this season.

He said, he was my lucky charm. Don't know if he comes to more races now. It was a cool moment.

McLaren defends Donald Trump’s presence at Miami GP

Formula 1 has always tried to stay out of politics. Donald Trump’s attempt to host a fundraiser at the Miami GP was blocked. However, McLaren agreed to have the American politician as a guest in its garage for the weekend. After receiving backlash from fans online, the British team released a statement defending its decision.

As per reports, McLaren stated that it remained a non-political organization. However, the Woking-based team emphasized the importance of the office of the US President. As such, Zak Brown‘s squad accepted the request from Donald Trump’s team to visit its garage on the day of the Miami GP.

Certainly, Donald Trump remains a polarizing figure in the F1 paddock. The former US President perhaps had the best outing he could’ve expected as Lando Norris took his maiden F1 victory. However, it might be unlikely that Trump would attend either of the two remaining American races on the calendar. As the American tries to focus on his 2024 election campaign.
