Lando Norris headed into the Dutch GP weekend with just nine points off the championship lead to Oscar Piastri. The Briton had started the weekend with a decent pace throughout the practice sessions. Moreover, Norris looked strong in the qualifying sessions and was believed to have a great shot at pole. However, the 25-year-old narrowly missed out on the pole to Piastri and lamented the missed opportunity at Zandvoort.

Oscar Piastri will start the race from pole with Lando Norris in the front row right behind the former. The Briton missed the pole position by an extremely tight gap of just 0.012 seconds. Norris committed minor errors on the final push lap and missed clinching the first start. As such, the 25-year-old opened up on the consequences for his blunder at the Dutch GP.

Lando Norris insisted that the entire weekend had remained close, especially between him and Oscar Piastri. As such, the Briton believed that the session could’ve gone good for either of the drivers, as this time the Aussie lucked out. The 25-year-old insisted that he was disappointed not to be in the pole position and having to work hard for the race win.

Speaking on the problems that cost him his pole position, Norris pointed out that he had a good lap and possessed great speed throughout the circuit. However, a small headwind down the straight made all the difference in lap times and caused him to lose the pole position by a very minuscule gap. Regardless, the Briton has looked strong throughout the weekend and will definitely have a great shot at the race win in the main race.

It’s been close all weekend, could always go one way or other. Yes, a little bit disappointed not to be on pole. It’s tough – I had a good lap, but just a small headwind down the straight and I lost a hundredth.

Lando Norris aims to ‘have fun’ at the Dutch GP

McLaren has remained the team to beat in the 2025 season, as their dominant pace was present at the Dutch GP as well. Both drivers of the Papaya Squad will start the race from the front row and aim to maximize their points over the race weekends. Although Piastri is in pole position, he might not be that lucky on track, as Norris recalled the 2024 Dutch GP and how it wasn’t so good for him.

Lando Norris won the 2024 Dutch GP, but still lost a couple of track positions during the race start despite starting on pole. As such, Norris recalled that both he and Oscar Piastri had a terrible start to the previous year’s races. Regardless, the 25-year-old hopes to have fun in the main race and continue his hunt for trumping Piastri from the championship lead.

We’ll have some fun tomorrow. We both had terrible starts last year, so we’ll see!

Lando Norris noted

The 2025 season only has nine more races to go after the Dutch GP. Both McLaren drivers have ridden off into the distance in the championship standings and are likely to win both titles. However, Max Verstappen is giving it his all from the P3 spot. Now, time will tell which driver out of Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri, or Verstappen emerges as the favorite to win the driver’s title by the end of the season.
