Lando Norris won the 2025 F1 driver’s title following a season full of ups and downs. The Briton started the year off in great form but suffered from a desperate slump mid-way through the year.

However, Norris performed well when it mattered the most and achieved the title win by just two points following the culmination of the Abu Dhabi GP. The reigning champion was understandably emotional following the win and hugged it out with his parents present at the racing venue.

Being an F1 driver certainly isn’t for the weak-hearted. The sport takes away many aspects of a normal person’s life in order to be successful in the pinnacle of motorsport.

For Lando Norris, he had to give up on a lot of quality family time and spend time away from home, racing at circuits all over the world. Though Norris could make up for it after celebrating his title win with his mother and father, it still wasn’t enough.

Now, Lando Norris opened up on the sacrifices he had to make just to deliver a championship-winning campaign in the 2025 season. Although Norris highlighted that his family was still complete and close-knit, they did not spend much time together ever since he was around eight years old.

The Briton spent his childhood days traveling with his father to racing tracks and winning races in the junior categories. Lando Norris revealed that his mother had to stay home with her daughters and look after them.

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old was out with his father back then, hopping from race to race just to thrive in the motorsport industry. Norris shockingly revealed that ever since he got into motorsport, he only saw his mother for 20 days in a year, which definitely isn’t a lot.

We’re still as a family. You want to be together. You want to spend time together. I know that’s something we’ve not really done a lot of since I started when I was like seven, eight years old, My dad was taking me everywhere. I spent a lot more time with my dad than I did with my mum. My mum was at home looking after my sisters. I see my mum 20 days a year, maybe something like that, which is not a lot.

Lando Norris asserts all the sacrifices he made were ‘worth it’

Winning the driver’s title in Formula 1 is an extremely revered achievement for many drivers in the sport. It is an unrealized dream of many drivers, as only 34 unique drivers have won the coveted driver’s title out of around 780 different drivers who have participated in the sport.

Though all of these drivers make big sacrifices, they still do not achieve success in the sport. However, for Lando Norris, he won the 2025 driver’s title and weighed in on whether all the sacrifices so far were worth it or not.

Lando Norris insisted that his mom wished to see him more and spend time with him. But this wasn’t possible as he had to focus on his performances in Formula 1. For all those sacrifices he made back then, merely getting into the pinnacle of motorsport was good enough. However, after winning his maiden driver’s championship, Norris noted that it was all worth it in the end.

My mum wished she saw me a lot more, But for all of those times, it already felt worth it when I got to Formula 1 and I won a race in Formula 1. Certainly winning and having the achievement we did yesterday made everything feel more worth it, all those times away.

Lando Norris noted.

For now, Lando Norris will be able to spend some quality time with his family as Formula 1 takes a winter break. However, he will soon have to return to his F1 duties with McLaren as the next season is right around the corner. The Briton and his family will hope to come up with a similar, if not better, performance for the new regulations from the 2026 season.
