Formula 1’s governing body, the FIA has issued a ban on swear words on team radio. This has led to backlash from many drivers including Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Now, Lando Norris has weighed in on the issue and slammed the decision.

The McLaren driver highlighted that during sessions, drivers speak while being in the heat of the moment. Lando Norris pinpointed that everyone is under stress and battling against one another at high speeds. Previously, Max Verstappen voiced his resentment over this ban.

Just the guys in the heat of the moment, under stress, under pressure, fighting, having big crashes.

Moreover, Norris claimed that it was much easier for the FIA to tell drivers not to swear on the team radio. The Briton highlighted that it is the drivers who are putting their hearts on the line and pushing themselves to the limit at every race.

It's just a lot easier for them to say than for us to do because we're out there putting our hearts on the line on trying to race people and we're giving it our all.

Lando Norris insists ‘passion’ behind swear words on team radio

Lando Norris asserted that racing is the passion for all drivers and they put their heart into it. As such, one could end up saying bad words just because they want to give their best and get results. Norris highlighted that drivers swear as they feel hard done by when things go wrong on-track.

We're just putting our passion and our love into it. Of course, there's going to be some bad words on the other side of it, but it's just because we're trying, we're wanting to give our best and we feel hard done by when things don't go right.
Lando Norris explained

Certainly, the ban on swear words has not made anyone happy in the F1 paddock. Drivers do not want to be forced to self-censor while racing at two hundred miles an hour. However, the FIA is yet to respond to any criticism as of yet. As such, it remains to be seen how things pan out in the coming days.
