Lando Norris has emerged as one of the better drivers on the grid after returning from the summer break. The Briton is currently leading the campaign over his teammate Oscar Piastri by 26 points. Norris enjoyed a dominant run in the past two race weekends and achieved stellar race wins. However, with the Las Vegas GP up next, the 26-year-old cast his doubts on emerging victorious in the third and final American race of the 2025 season.
McLaren and Lando Norris, in particular, do not have a great track record when it comes to racing at the Las Vegas GP. Even in the previous year, when the team was performing much better than the rivals, Norris could only finish in P6, much farther back from the winning position. Now, with similar conditions this time around, the Briton isn’t overconfident in his chances to succeed in Las Vegas.
Lando Norris recalled his outing at the 2024 Las Vegas GP, claiming that it was the worst race for him and the team collectively. As such, he wasn’t really looking forward to the upcoming race despite leading the driver’s title with a comfortable enough lead. Norris reckoned that although McLaren would try to work hard on improving these factors, Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari would likely remain the dominating factors.
I think it was our worst race last year, So I’m not really looking forward to it. We’ve been trying to work quite hard on improving those things. We know Mercedes were incredibly strong there last year, as well as Red Bull and Ferrari. I think we were the bottom of those four.
Lando Norris said via Formula 1.
Notably, Lando Norris boldly claimed that he wasn’t going to finish P10 or way off the race win, but he accepted that it would be very difficult to win. He reiterated that he was completely off the winning pace in his previous outing on the Las Vegas track. Norris pointed out that the team was miles off and was not dominant at all. Hence, this will definitely shake up the driver’s title battle if the Briton fails to put up an impressive run.
I’m not saying I’m going to be 10th, I’m just saying I think it’s going to be difficult to win. We were a long way off. Just go and look at the data from last year, look at the race traces, we were miles off.

Lando Norris reveals the races he’s ‘looking forward’ to in his championship ambitions
The 2025 season is just three races away from completion. Although the Las Vegas GP is bound to be difficult for Lando Norris, all is not lost for him yet. The subsequent Qatar GP and Abu Dhabi GP would definitely be much more competitive for him. As such, he insisted that McLaren was continuing to work on their pace and hence he was looking forward to all the remaining races this year.

Lando Norris highlighted that the team improved in many areas this year, so he wasn’t going to be too negative about his chances of succeeding in the coming races. He believes that there is plenty to look forward to in this season. Norris ultimately claimed that the Abu Dhabi and Qatar races were the ones to look forward to, and the Las Vegas GP less so, given their past track difficulties.
Obviously we’ve improved a lot of things this year, so I’m not going to be too negative about it. I think there’s plenty to look forward to. We know Abu Dhabi and Qatar are ones we are looking forward to. Las Vegas just a little bit less, because they’ve been probably some of our weakest races over the last two years. So let’s wait and see.
Lando Norris noted.
The driver’s title battle is far from over despite the season being near completion. Max Verstappen and Oscar Piastri cannot be counted out of the battle until the very end. As such, the fight for the title win will surely be enthralling amongst the top three drivers. For now, Lando Norris hopes to hold onto the lead and clinch his maiden driver’s championship title.
