Lando Norris will enter the 2026 season as the reigning world champion. The coming season will introduce new regulations as McLaren hopes to steer through the uncertainties. Notably, none of the teams seems to be the clear favorite to perform well in 2026. Regardless, Norris is confident in his abilities to remain a strong contender for the driver’s title and win it back-to-back.

Throughout the 2025 season, Lando Norris suffered from multiple uncertainties. The Briton seemingly lost the title battle at one point in the season, but achieved a great comeback in results to ultimately win his maiden driver’s title. Now, speaking on his ambitions in the 2026 season, Norris reassures that his sights lie on winning his second consecutive driver’s championship.

Speaking about his goals leading up to the 2026 season, Lando Norris reassured that winning the title was ‘absolutely’ the goal. The one-time champion highlighted that winning one championship gave him a lot of confidence to build on his legacy in the sport. Norris believes that it is important to find his own rhythm to do well in Formula 1, as others have done with more confidence or less.

It’s absolutely the goal. Yes, it’s absolutely, absolutely the goal, Certainly, winning one gives you a lot more confidence. It’s different for everyone, right? You’ve got to find your own way of doing things, and you have people with more confidence, people with less.

Recalling his championship-winning campaign in the 2025 season, Lando Norris insisted that he had everything right in place. He pointed out he had a great team, car, and people around him that maximized his winning chances. Still, Norris highlighted that he had to instill a lot of faith in himself, as he ultimately picked up the title win.

Already halfway through the season, I felt like I had everything I needed. The people around me, the team, the car, and my own ability to go out and win the championship. So that first time I really had the belief in myself was last year, and it turned out to be the correct thing to have. So, that was the beautiful thing, too.

McLaren Confirms “Papaya Rules” Will Stay for 2026 F1 Season

The Papaya Rules caused Oscar Piastri to lose out on his run against Lando Norris massively on multiple occasions. The favoritism seemed to be so much so that the squad was accused of having a British bias. Though Piastri declined this possibility and was satisfied with his performances under the Papaya Rules. Now, McLaren confirms that the team orders will continue to play a role between the two teammates at Woking in 2026 as well.

McLaren’s Team Principal Andrea Stella confirmed that both Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris had a long conversation with the squad regarding the ‘Papaya Rules’. Stella confirmed that both drivers agreed upon having the rules in place, even for the 2026 season. Despite the backlash and resentment from the fans, the team decided to go racing with the Papaya Rules, ready to be deployed at any moment in the season.

Even when it comes to the racing principles that we apply in the way we go racing at McLaren together with Lando and Oscar, while we could confirm even in the post-season with Lando and Oscar and the ongoing conversations, pretty much as we speak, with our drivers, we confirm that the principles of fairness, equality, sportsmanship – that’s the way we want to go racing.

The 2026 season will introduce new regulations, and with that, massive uncertainty on the track. Mercedes was rumored to be at the forefront of engine development, and this will directly help McLaren’s performance. However, the first few races will give a realistic idea of which team might dominate the remainder of the new regulations.
