McLaren driver Lando Norris has missed out on numerous wins this season despite being in top form. Norris is currently second in the driver’s championship, trailing Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 76 points.
Lando Norris triumphed for the first time in his career at Miami this season and has also scored eight podiums. But the 24-year-old has not been clinical during crucial moments, which has cost him greatly in the title race.
Moreover, Norris was compelled to give his position back to the team during the closing stages of the race in Budapest. He was seemingly upset about having to give up the win in Hungary but is optimistic about his chances going ahead.
It’s still on. I know it’s a big stretch. But I’m not going to say no to the challenge and definitely as a team, we won’t. Psychologically I’m happy, I’m excited. I’m ready to battle and looking forward to the battles that we’re going to have.Lando Norris via The Guardian
The 24-year-old will now take on the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps against the likes of Red Bull and Max Verstappen this week. The final race before the summer break will be a crucial one for McLaren, who is eyeing a title victory for the first time since 2008.
McLaren’s Andrea Stella fires stern warning to drivers post Hungarian GP controversy
Lando Norris refused to obey team orders initially during the Hungarian Grand Prix, which invoked major controversy within McLaren. Team Principal Andrea Stella has recently spoken in a stern manner on this matter.
We talked about our principles going racing and one principle - I don't want to disclose too much - is that simple in that the interest of the team comes first. If you mess up on this matter, you cannot be part of the McLaren Formula 1 team. That is the principle. We will reaffirm some of the ways we collaborate with the messages for instance in case we need to solve situations like this.Andrea Stella told the media including RacingNews365
Andrea Stella claimed that the needs of the team come before the personal aspirations or goals of an individual driver. Stella also asserted that failure to comply with team orders is just not acceptable on the Woking-based outfit.
McLaren secured the 1-2 finish at Budapest amidst controversy, which sees them close down Red Bull to 51 points. The outfit will now try to perform in the same manner, with the exception of causing a similar controversy in the future.
