Lewis Hamilton has been having an extremely torrid time behind the wheel of the Mercedes W15. The car has not operated as per expectations and no one on the Brackley-based team is pleased with the 2024 package!
F1 is currently in a short break ahead of the Chinese GP and Lewis Hamilton has made an appearance in New York. He was spotted at a public event where he took the time to dwell on the woes of the W15.
He was asked how the 2024 season is going for him and he had the following to say.
It's going pretty bad at the moment, but there's a long, long season, so there is plenty of time to progress. Not giving up!Lewis Hamilton said in an interview in New Yoek
Q: Do you drive in New York?

LH: No, I've never driven in New York. I don't really drive a lot.
Q: You only drive on the track? So how's that going?[…]

The 39-year-year-old after four rounds in the 2024 F1 season, has only managed to amass 10 points in the Drivers Championship. He has found it difficult to get on top of the W15 and has thus, proved second best to teammate, George Russell.
Lewis Hamilton’s take on his extremely tough Japanese GP outing
While Lewis Hamilton is keeping a positive outlook going ahead into the 2024 season, he feels that his Japanese GP outing was severely affected after his contact with Charles Leclerc‘s SF-24 during the race. Hamilton had understeer issues after sustaining damage.
Moreover, because of it, he was only able to manage a ninth-place finish.
I think I picked up a bit of damage in the beginning with Charles around the outside. I had a huge understeer for the first stint. I couldn’t turn the car through the corners.Lewis Hamilton said post Japanese GP
The ongoing campaign still has 20 races remaining on the calendar in which Mercedes can look to make a solid comeback. However, keeping in view the incessant problems with the W15, it seems like an extremely tall order for Hamilton and company. Mercedes is currently fourth in the Constructors Championship behind the Woking-based McLaren F1 team.
