Lewis Hamilton and Scuderia Ferrari have been struggling since the start of the 2025 season. The iconic pairing has failed to be in the mix for wins. The Monaco GP was yet another underwhelming outing for the seven-time world champion, who simply lacked the pace to be a real threat upfront. Now, Hamilton has confessed that he did not have the best of times in the race.

The British star qualified in fourth place, but fell to seventh due to a grid penalty for impeding Max Verstappen. During the race, Lewis Hamilton could not replicate the pace he showed on Saturday, and became stuck in no man’s land. The 40-year-old was not a threat to anyone in the pecking order and brought home his car comfortably in fifth place.

The seven-time world champion admitted that driving around Monaco was nothing short of miserable this weekend. This is a shame, considering it was Hamilton’s first Monaco GP for Ferrari. The 40-year-old blamed the circuit’s nature, pointing out that only the driver in the lead of the race can truly enjoy themselves. Lewis Hamilton claimed that the race gave an empty feeling whenever he has not won the round.

Driving] was miserable. Unless you’re in the lead, even when you’re in the lead it’s not that fun, just a nice reward at the end. Other than that, anything but first is kind of empty.

Lewis Hamilton left clueless with Ferrari radio message

While Lewis Hamilton was having a quiet race off-track, things were different back at the Ferrari pitwall. The Briton was having some peculiar conversations with his engineer that surprised viewers. The F1 star pointed out the one message that even left him confused.

In the latter half of the race, Lewis Hamilton was told that he should start pushing. The seven-time world champion admitted that he had no idea why he was sent this message and who he was really fighting against. After the race, the 40-year-old looked at the data and saw that he was really not close to anyone upfront. Hamilton had used up his tires in a bid to push, but to no avail. Moreover, he was allegedly ignored by the pitwall on the team radio after the race.

I didn’t know what I was fighting for. Am I fighting for the next spot ahead, or? But in actual fact when I look at the data I was nowhere near any of the guys up front so…I used up my tyres a lot in that moment but I was so far away from them.

Lewis Hamilton explained

Certainly, the Monaco GP was a disappointing weekend for Lewis Hamilton. The British star hoped for a much better weekend than a lowly fifth place result. The seven-time world champion would now be looking to move on from this round and focus on making improvements at the next race in Spain.
