Lewis Hamilton won his home race (British GP) after a plethora of overtakes and correct strategy calls. On the other hand, his teammate, George Russell, had won in Austria a weekend before. Witnessing the rapid rise in Mercedes‘ place in the pecking order, Hamilton has claimed the team to be stronger than before.

Mercedes began the season with a car that had an unstable platform. The highlight of their first few rounds was George Russell‘s P5 finish in Bahrain. However, this soon changed after the team brought an upgrade package, which seemed fruitful as both of its drivers won a race in succession amid the ongoing title battle between Red Bull and McLaren.

With the sudden rise in pace helping Lewis Hamilton win the race in Silverstone, he seemed optimistic as he claimed the team was in a better position.

The car[W15], by no means, is the car the quickest car on the grid right now. I think we are super close and I think hopefully with the next upgrade perhaps, we will be in an even stronger position to really, really be fighting at the front row more consistently.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with Race Fans

The 39-year-old admitted that the W15 was no way near to becoming the benchmark of the field, but he reckons that the Brackley-based squad is super close. Moreover, with a plethora of upgrades scheduled for the upcoming weekends, he envisions the team to be fighting for the front row more consistently.

Does Lewis Hamilton regret switching to Ferrari amid Mercedes resurgence?

After winning the British GP, chatter began in the paddock whether Hamilton regretted his decision to move to Maranello in 2025. The German giant is currently in the mix for wins, while Ferrari has slumped down to fourth in terms of car performance.

Subsequently, when the Brit was asked whether his decision to move to Ferrari was bittersweet, he gave his views.

No, I think when we started the season and we had a car where we weren’t anywhere near Red Bull, or anywhere near looking like we would ever get a win through the year. That for me felt like it would be kind of ‘bittersweet’ at the end of the season. The fact we’ve really all come together, and everyone’s done such a great job to get the car into a place where we’re feeling much more comfortable.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with The Telegraph

Hamilton rejected such rumors and claimed that the only thing bittersweet was Mercedes being away from the top at the start of the season. However, he is happy with the progress the Brackley-based team has made and is happy to leave them on a high after the struggles.

On the contrary, after Mercedes’ rise, alarm bells must have started to ring in the rival team’s HQ. Red Bull has conceded points in the constructor’s standings as Mercedes joins the battle at the front.
