Lewis Hamilton confesses it would be ‘high hopes’ to think Mercedes can fight for 2024 title
Lewis Hamilton is still doubtful over Mercedes' chances to contend for the world championship contention towards the end of the 2024 season.

Mercedes has started to showcase one of their best performances ever in the ground-effect era. Brackley has already scored three race victories amidst the mid-season pace improvement. However, the team lost out on major points since the beginning as they have declining hopes of a WCC contention. Upon this, Lewis Hamilton reckoned that aiming for this goal would be very ambitious.
The improvement in performance for Mercedes has enabled them to gain control over their position in the WCC. The Barckley team is currently just 142 points behind Red Bull and 100 points behind McLaren. However, Lewis Hamilton still believed that aiming for contention at the championship victory would be ‘high hopes’.

Regardless, Hamilton claimed that continuing with such performances would be ‘fantastic’ for the Silver Arrows. Additionally, the drivers could start the weekends much better and gain crucial information. Hence, the 39-year-old ‘hoped’ to continue such performances over the remaining race weekends.
But, if we can continue this kind of performance as we've had the last few races, which has been fantastic, I think if we can start our weekends off a little bit better, hopefully we can continue.Lewis Hamilton added.

The W15 challenger has started to perform much better than its predecessor in the ground-effect era. Hence, speaking on W15’s performance at the Belgian GP, Hamilton noted that there was a big difference. Additionally, the Briton recalled that the chassis was ‘disastrous’ in performance during the initial practice sessions.
It was literally night and day different on Sunday. On Friday, it was pretty disastrous for both of us and really struggling with balance.Lewis Hamilton noted.
Hence, the competition at the forefront has further increased with Mercedes joining the battle for the race wins. The 2024 season will put forth exciting contingencies towards the end for multiple constructors. Brackley’s current focus has to lie on closing the gap to Ferrari in the constructors’ championship and aiming for a move up the pecking order.
