Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton will make the fans experience a surreal moment at the Brazilian GP on Saturday. Hamilton will drive legendary Brazilian driver Ayrton Senna‘s 1990 championship-winning McLaren MP4/5B at Interlagos.

The late Ayrton Senna is often regarded as one of, if not the greatest, drivers in the history of Formula 1. He won the drivers’ championship thrice in 1988, 1990, and 1991 with McLaren. Senna continues to live on in the memories of his fans and is an inspiration to many drivers in the world of motorsport.

Lewis Hamilton has always idolized Senna and has openly talked of the latter’s impact on his life. The 39-year-old is more than honored to drive his idol’s car around his home crowd at Interlagos. The iconic McLaren MP4/5B helped Senna win five races and secured 10 pole positions during the 1990 season.

Hamilton starts P11 at the sprint race on Saturday after a dismal qualifying jeopardized his chances of a front-row start. The proceedings of the weekend will nevertheless be an exciting affair for Formula 1 fans across the world.

Lewis Hamilton’s take qualifying P11 for the Interlagos Sprint race

Lewis Hamilton complained of issues with the Mercedes’ W15 during his runs at the sprint race qualifying on Friday. Hamilton has been fairly lackluster in his performances during qualifying for the better part of the season.

Hamilton said that his car felt unpredictable with the varying nature of the Interlagos circuit on Friday. Hamilton has witnessed a greater decline in his form after winning the races of Silverstone and Spa this campaign.
