Monaco GP has been a staple of the F1 calendar since the inaugural season of the championship. However, since then the cars have evolved, but the layout has remained almost the same. This has led to a reduction in the number of overtakes per year, and the discussion regarding whether the race should even be held has been on the rise. Subsequently, Lewis Hamilton asserted that the event should be spiced up by F1.

The Monaco event is regarded as the crown jewel of F1, and winning a race around the 3.3 km circuit is considered to be one of the hardest feats in all of motorsport. However, as the years have progressed, the qualifying sessions have generated more interest than the races, except for a few anomalies.

Keeping in view the state of things, Lewis Hamilton genuinely feels a change is required to help make things exciting.

Monaco continues to be Monaco, it's not really changed much. The cars are getting bigger and you can't really overtake down the pits without a huge risk of colliding. I wish we had bigger roads and the track could be wider, but I don't think that's ever going to be the case in Monaco because it's just a small place. They can definitely come up with a specific weekend, you've got the sprint weekend that they have added, but this particular weekend I think they should come up with some new formula for it rather than it just be the same.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with Motorsport.com

The Mercedes driver admitted that as the cars are getting wider, the room for overtaking around Monaco has been shrinking. This has had the consequent side effect of making races quite boring. But to save the track from losing its spot on the calendar, he urged F1 to experiment with the race, as it would help gain traction among new fans and give a new life to the fading track.

What is Lewis Hamilton’s verdict on his quali pace deficit to George Russell?

With the Mercedes line-up rolling up to the Monaco GP, the intra-team battle seems to have been whitewashed by George Russell. The 26-year-old has been having the better of his teammate as he is ahead of Hamilton by 6-1 in qualifying. Moreover, this disparity between the pair has been highly noticed by the senior Brit himself.

The 39-year-old gave an insight into why he was slower than his teammate.

Particularly since the end of last year and then all this year, it has been pretty bad on a Saturday, but it is what it is. I’m going to continue to work on it and so far I haven’t gotten to a strong place, but there are plenty of races left to sort that out.
Lewis Hamilton said in an interview with PlanetF1

Hamilton claimed that since the latter half of 2023 and the start of this year, he has not been up to the pace of Russell. However, he is determined to work on it and would like to portray his prowess around the streets of the principality, where he has already won thrice.

Apart from this, Russell has been leading the battle even in race finishes as he has scored 44 points in comparison to Hamilton’s 35 points. Anyhow, the weekend in Monaco could be make-or-break for the seven-time world champion as he would like to assert his leadership back again at Brackley, before moving to Ferrari.
