Lewis Hamilton is a Formula 1 icon. The seven-time world champion is arguably the biggest name in the world of motorsport with an enormous fanbase. It is thus no surprise that Hamilton’s suggestions are often accepted by the sport, particularly over new race destinations.
The Mercedes driver reckoned that he has played a tiny role in the recent additions to the Formula 1 calendar. Lewis Hamilton recalled that he had often mentioned he wanted to race in Las Vegas. With the first Las Vegas GP taking place last season, a few years after the Briton’s first comments.
One of the cool things is I feel like I maybe play a tiny role in these races that appear. It was something I’d always said. They’d say, where you want to have a race and I always said Vegas. And all of a sudden some years later we had a race in Vegas.

One must note that Hamilton has continued to raise voice against LGBTQ discrimination in various countries. The 39-year-old wears rainbow helmets for some races in the Middle East to show that he stands firmly against such laws. However, F1 usually stays away from commenting on this issue.

And then also, I’ve been talking about Africa, and we’ve got, potentially, Rwanda on the cards, which is amazing. So I just hope it comes in time before I’m gone. That’s my biggest dream, is to make sure that I get to race there before I retire.
