Lewis Hamilton‘s time at Scuderia Ferrari seems to be going from bad to worse. The seven-time world champion’s rookie campaign has failed to even come close to expectations. The disappointment has now continued at the Belgian GP after Hamilton had a terrible finish in the Sprint.
The British driver was optimistic about the team’s prospects heading into this weekend. Ferrari had brought some crucial updates in the hopes of getting back to the fight upfront. Unfortunately, the weekend kicked off with a disaster as Lewis Hamilton got knocked out of Sprint Qualifying in the first session. The 40-year-old even claimed that he spun out perhaps for the first time in his career.
The seven-time world champion started the sprint race from P18 with no real hopes of scoring any points. Lewis Hamilton was only able to make some marginal progress before crossing the line in P15, making it a race to forget.
After the race, Hamilton made it clear that there wasn’t much his team needed to analyze over the result. He claimed that a DRS train ruined his chances of making up places. Lewis Hamilton admitted that he didn’t find the race exciting. Nevertheless, the seven-time world champion was happy to see the team continue to push with its latest upgrade package.
There’s not really too much to analyse. We were stuck in a DRS train with everybody so it was, kind of a, not exciting race, from my position at least. We are having upgrades, I’m grateful to everyone at the factory for continuing to push and bring those here.

Lewis Hamilton hopes to turn things around at Belgian GP
The Belgian GP weekend is one of the six Sprint rounds of the season. This gives teams less time to test out new upgrades, but also provides more opportunities to extract performance. The Sprint race disaster could help Hamilton and Ferrari better prepare for the remainder of the weekend.

Lewis Hamilton pointed out that the lack of optimization led to his struggles on Friday, which inevitably carried over to the Sprint. However, the British driver did not want to rule out the update entirely. Rather, the seven-time world champion hoped that things will improve once he gets inside the car during Qualifying.
Yesterday, mine was not optimized and that’s what we saw in the result. But, there’s lots of changes as well so yeah, I hope today is going to be better.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari are still not in a position to fight for wins. The Scuderia simply does not have a car capable of winning races at the moment. Moreover, despite Hamilton’s best efforts, it seems that he is unable to replicate his on-track brilliance. If the 40-year-old cannot improve in the main race on Sunday, alarm bells must start ringing in Maranello.
