Lewis Hamilton‘s woes at Ferrari continue even at the Belgian GP, as the Briton suffers from disappointment at the beginning of the weekend. Hamilton was looking strong and confident to finally achieve a turnaround in performance as compared to the dismal start to the season. However, the Belgian weekend might not be a highlight for the 40-year-old as he suffered from an early elimination in the first session of the Sprint Qualifying. Now, the seven-time champion makes a shocking claim over his blunder that eliminated him in the first session.
Lewis Hamilton didn’t hesitate to acknowledge Ferrari’s struggles in recent races, which rendered him unable to fight for significant results. Even though Hamilton is giving it his all, the challenger’s mediocre pace is causing him further problems in regaining his lost form. During his final fast lap of the SQ1 session of the Belgian GP, the 40-year-old spun out on the penultimate corner and was ultimately eliminated from the session.
The seven-time champion was questioned about the reasons behind his sudden spin out on the penultimate chicane. The 40-year-old had a blunt answer to this as he pointed out that he simply spun out on the track. When pushed further, Lewis Hamilton asserted that the rear wheels of his SF-25 challenger locked up, causing him to go spinning. The seven-time champion pinpointed that he committed such a mistake for the first time in his career of over 18 years in Formula 1.
I spun. [Yeah] First time, I think, in my career.
Lewis Hamilton said in a post-session interview
Lewis Hamilton insisted that Friday was not good enough for him as he suffered from a disappointing end to the day. Hamilton noted that the car was not great in terms of performance either. The 40-year-old emphasized that there wasn’t much to speak on the matter as Ferrari seems to be confused over the actual problems in the challenger.
Not great, not great. Yeah, there’s not really a lot to say.
Lewis Hamilton added

Lewis: I spun.
Q: Was it rear locking?
Lewis: [Yeah] First time, I think, in my career.
Q: Overall, how do you assess how the car has been today?
Lewis: Not great, not great. Yeah, there's not really a lot to say.

Lewis Hamilton ‘massively frustrated’ after SQ1 exit at Belgian GP
Following an SQ1 exit on Friday, Lewis Hamilton will have to start the race from P18. The Belgian GP sprint race would be a stark difference to his dominant outing in the Chinese sprint race, where he achieved an impressive race win. As such, the 40-year-old might not even be able to contend for a points finish over the sprint race as he prepares to give it his all. Regardless, Hamilton openly accepted his massive frustration following a dismal outing.

Lewis Hamilton reckoned that Saturday would be a new day for him and Ferrari as he hopes for some better results. The 40-year-old accepted that is massively frustrated by the situation as the crew worked very hard on the challenger ahead of the session. Despite multiple upgrades in the car, it isn’t up to the mark as Hamilton couldn’t compete for a pole position.
Tomorrow’s a new day, so we’ll try to…Obviously, I’m massively frustrated, so… A lot of work’s gone in, and to be there is not really great. So, yeah, hopefully tomorrow will be better.
Lewis Hamilton noted
Ferrari seems to be unable to return to their winning ways even after Lewis Hamilton entered the team. Maranello must achieve an immediate turnaround in performance if they want to retain Hamilton’s interest in the squad. For now, the team will work hard on providing a worthy enough car to the seven-time champion in the main qualifying session for the Belgian GP.
