Lewis Hamilton‘s streak of woeful performances has continued through the 2024 US GP as well. The Briton was eliminated from the Q1 qualifying session at the COTA racing circuit. Hamilton is set to start the race from the P18 and is unlikely to amass massive points. The 39-year-old opened up regarding the underlying issue behind his disappointing performance.

The US GP qualifying was massively disappointing for Lewis Hamilton amidst his Q1 exit. The W15 chassis faced some issues with the front suspension failure during the formation lap of the sprint race. To make matters worse, Hamilton anticipated that the damage was so bad that he might have to start the race from the pitlane itself.

We had a front suspension failure on the Formation Lap before the Sprint, which I had to drive with in the Sprint. I think I’ll be starting from the pit lane tomorrow as the car is a nightmare.

Lewis Hamilton labeled the performance downfall after practice sessions as ‘confusing’

The FP1 session of the US GP was relatively better for the Silver Arrows as they lodged some good lap times. The sprint qualifying and the sprint race on the other hand were desperately worse than the previous session. Lewis Hamilton claimed that the downfall in performance wasn’t a surprise. The Briton labeled the issue as ‘confusing’ because of the chassis feeling better in Friday’s practice.

It wouldn’t been a surprise. The car was feeling good yesterday. Definitely a confusing problem.

Lewis Hamilton will have to battle extremely hard on the track to move up the pecking order. A P18 start at the US GP means that the Briton will be unable to attain his seventh victory on American soil. Moreover, Mercedes will take a massive hit in their running against Ferrari for the third spot in the constructors’ championship.
