The Emilia Romagna GP is Lewis Hamilton‘s first race in Italy for Scuderia Ferrari. The seven-time world champion had waited to compete for the Italian team at its home venues ever since he signed his contract. However, things could not have gone worse for Hamilton and Ferrari. The 40-year-old has opened up on a dismal Q2 exit from Qualifying on Saturday.

Heading into the Imola weekend, the Tifosi hoped to see a positive result from Lewis Hamilton and his teammate Charles Leclerc. While realistically, Ferrari was not expected to be a real trouble upfront. However, no one would’ve expected Hamilton and Leclerc to be eliminated from Qualifying in Q2. The seven-time world champion could only manage P12 in the session, while his teammate will start the race from P11.

Lewis Hamilton confessed that he felt shattered following the session. The 40-year-old did not want his first Italian race for Ferrari to begin this way. Hamilton claimed that the Ferrari SF25 seemed good over the course of the weekend. So much so, that the F1 star had believed that he could get a satisfactory result at least on Saturday.

I’m devastated. We worked so hard, it’s my first race in Italy with Ferrari. The car was feeling good. I thought we were gonna be okay.

Lewis Hamilton said post-qualifying

Though, this was not the case. Despite his best efforts, the Briton failed to make it to the final session of Qualifying. Lewis Hamilton admitted that he was dumbfounded over the result. He made it clear that the team will take a good look over the data to find answers.

But we just weren’t able to get through. I really don’t know what happened. We have to look into why we couldn’t improve when everyone else did. I don’t have an answer.

Ferrari are in a difficult spot after Qualifying. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc do not appear to have pace even close to the frontrunners. So much so, that on the surface, a couple of points might be a good result for the Prancing Horse.

The seven-time world champion did not hold back from giving his honest thoughts for the race. Lewis Hamilton admitted that the race will depend on a lot of ‘ifs.’ The Briton pointed out that the difficult-to-overtake nature of Imola would only make it more challenging. Hamilton remains determined to find a way to make progress nonetheless.

[The race] it’s all big ifs. It’s a very difficult track to overtake so tomorrow will be hard to progress. We have to figure a way to progress forward. It’s going to be tough.

Lewis Hamilton told media after qualifying

Lewis Hamilton’s disastrous run with Ferrari is only getting worse. The Emilia Romagna GP was the latest race where the Briton has struggled to perform. Though, this session could be blamed on the car considering the massive gap to Red Bull and McLaren. Now, Hamilton will be hoping to make some progress for the Tifosi in the main race. Though, this session will already raise eyebrows at Maranello over the team’s string of disappointing results this year.
