Lewis Hamilton shocked the entire paddock after switching to Ferrari for 2025 onwards. The Briton is now set to debut with the Italian constructor in the coming season. Amidst the preparations, Hamilton recalled the moment back in 2024, right when he signed with the Scuderia as a driver.

Lewis Hamilton switched to Ferrari after working closely with Mercedes for over 12 years. Hamilton with Brackley became the most successful driver-team pairing after achieving over 14 combined titles. However, the 40-year-old recounted that he never expected to race for the Reds and couldn’t believe the situation after finalizing the contract on a call.

Racing for Ferrari is an unrealized dream for many Formula 1 drivers. Hamilton felt the same, admitting he was starstruck after signing with Maranello. The Briton admitted that he was overwhelmed with emotions after finalizing the deal and found it difficult to sit still. Due to this, the 40-year-old had to go out for a walk and calm down.

It was a lot to take in, and my emotions were running high. I honestly had to go for a walk.

Lewis Hamilton had very slim chances of making it into Ferrari due to his close ties with Mercedes. However, the 40-year-old parted ways with the German carmaker and pounced on the opportunity. Hamilton admitted that he had come to terms with never racing for the Italian constructor.

If I’m really honest, I had accepted the fact that I’m probably not going to drive for Ferrari, I was okay with that.
