Lewis Hamilton topped Mercedes in the second practice session at the Spanish GP. With George Russell securing eighth place. The seven-time world champion reckoned things didn’t fall well for him and the team in first practice session.

Lewis Hamilton mentioned, the first free practice session didn’t go well for Mercedes. However, the team was able to gather valuable information from that session. He admitted, the second practice session was much better compared to first, where car performed really well. The Briton explained the track conditions were very hot, which made tires hard during long runs.

FP1 wasn't the best session for us but we still learned quite a lot. FP2 was a lot better though and the car was feeling great. The track was very hot, so it was tough on the tires, especially on the long run.

Lewis Hamilton expressed that despite challenges, the session left them feeling competitive and not far behind the top contenders. The seven-time- world champion reckoned they’re in a good position to be competitive for Sunday’s race.

Overall, though, it didn't feel like we were too far off being right in the mix at the front.

Lewis Hamilton noted that the W15 has improved during races, crediting everyone who contributed effort to make crucial small improvements. The seven-time world champion explained, the team knows it’s path of where to go next and have a clear plan for the future. Hamilton reckoned, all this was possible because of team effort and result of this work has been paying off lately.

We have taken a step forward with the car in recent races. Everyone has worked so hard to get us to this point and make those incremental gains. We've got a clear direction of where we want to go moving forward too.

Hamilton further stated, the improvements are noticeable showing how well the car’s performing on the track. He aimed to maintain momentum until Saturday and close the gap with rivals McLaren and Ferrari, who are currently leading. The 39-year-old emphasized the importance of continuing to improve and aiming to be more competitive in the future.

We're starting to see that feed through to our performance on track. Hopefully we can continue the momentum from today into Saturday and get closer to our competitors ahead.
