Lewis Hamilton finished the race in third place after starting from the fifth position in Saturday’s qualifying sessions of the Hungarian GP. Max Verstappen, who started from third, collided with the Briton, causing him to lose his position. This podium finish marked Hamilton’s 200th career podium, setting a new record in F1.

At the post race interview Lewis Hamilton expressed that he never expected to reach 200 podium finishes in his racing career. The seven-time-world champion was surprised and pleased by this achievement. Hamilton expressed his love towards his first team in F1, that is McLaren. He highlighted the journey where he had his first world championship with the team before moving to Mercedes.

He mentioned that McLaren went through a tough period, but now they are doing well again. Seeing them succeed made him very happy because he considers the team like his family. However, he admitted their overall speed this weekend wasn’t as good as they had hoped. There were clear areas they needed to work on and investigate to understand why they were slower than the top competitors. Despite these challenges, Hamilton was pleased to have moved up from fifth to third position. The seven-time-world champion believed that with some improvements, they can close the gap and perform better in future races.

It’s been great to get these points, to move forwards in the race friday. Ultimately our pace this weekend wasn’t as good as we had hoped, for some clear areas that we need to work on and investigate why we are down compared to those guys ahead. But to move up from 5th to 3rd.

Further, Hamilton highlighted that the last two stints of the Hungarian GP was tough. The strategy they used which involved using hard tires made it difficult for Hamilton to keep up the pace. However, despite this difficulty, he felt very happy overall with the race. The Briton managed to handle the situation well and was satisfied with the outcome of the race. He remained optimistic and looked forward to improving in future races.
