Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had a forgetful afternoon on Saturday at the United States GP. They qualified P6 and P19, respectively, and failed to make any major impact in an already unsuccessful weekend for the Silver Arrows.
Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in Q1 in Austin for the first time in his career. He appeared distraught and had no answers, having won five times previously on the same track. George Russell, on the other hand, crashed out during the closing stages of Q3 despite showcasing a better performance up until then.

Hamilton thereafter offered Russell to swap parts with his W15 in order to rescue the latter’s chances from a better start. The 26-year-old has, however, opted to decline the swap but was through and through thankful for the Brit’s offer.
Right now, the concern is about the bits. We will have to revert on the upgrades. Lewis has kindly offered his ones, but we’re not going to swap. So I don’t know what’s going to be happening now, but that’s the biggest concern.

The Brackley-based team now has to find an alternative to repairing Russell’s car ahead of the main race. The US GP at the Circuit of Americas will therefore be a stern challenge for the struggling Silver Arrows.
Lewis Hamilton pinpoints issues with the W15 ahead of Austin race
The W15 has had a mixed tale of performances throughout the 2024 season. Ever since the resumption after the summer break, the Mercedes car has failed to perform meaningfully regardless of the track or condition.

Tomorrow will be difficult for us starting P19. It will be hard to come across opportunities, but I will be giving it my all to move forward. The car today suffered from an inconsistent balance and a lack of grip so hopefully it will be in a better place on Sunday.

Hamilton described that the W15 faced issues with balance and grip around the fast-paced Austin circuit on Saturday. He has nevertheless vouched to give his full efforts in order to maximize his results starting from P19.
The 39-year-old’s team will work around the clock in order to find a better spec for the race. It is seen that the Silver Arrows have raced better on Sundays as compared to qualifying this season. They will now be hoping for the same as Formula 1 heads into the 19th race of the ongoing campaign.
