Lewis Hamilton is arguably at the lowest point of his Formula 1 career. The seven-time world champion has had a terrible debut campaign with Scuderia Ferrari with no real results to show for. Amid the struggles, there have been rumors that the Briton might leave the team. However, Hamilton has expressed his love for the pinnacle of motorsport.
Since the start of this season, Lewis Hamilton has been having a difficult time. The 40-year-old has failed to adapt to Ferrari machinery and does not have a single podium finish to his name. Hamilton even called himself absolutely useless and demanded that Ferrari find a better driver to replace him. This has sparked rumors that Hamilton might be willing to leave Maranello and retire from the sport.
However, Lewis Hamilton seems to be looking forward to next season. 2026 will witness one of the biggest technical changes in the sport’s history with new power units and new cars. Hamilton mentioned that these rule changes were something that he truly loved in F1. The seven-time world champion pointed out the regulation shake-up leads to incredible innovation across the grid. Moreover, it also forces drivers with a steep learning curve to adapt to the new cars. Thus, it pushes every part of a team to the limit.
For me, the thing I love about Formula 1 is that there are these changes that come along the way. There’s so much innovation and development. And every time they make these changes, the learning curve is so steep for everyone within the team. So it really challenges us all to dig deep, to innovate.

Lewis Hamilton refuses to ‘shut down’ 2026 rule change
The 2026 rule changes have divided opinions across the F1 paddock. Drivers and teams have raised concerns over the level of racing with the newer cars. There are fears that the 2026 cars might not be as quick or improve racing as expected by FOM. Additionally, the power units remain a mystery as manufacturers cannot predict where they stack up in the pecking order.

Lewis Hamilton does not want to be so pessimistic about the upcoming technical shake-up. He made it clear that he wasn’t going to shut down the changes, hoping that things will go well. Lewis Hamilton insisted that there is a chance that it could go either way. However, the seven-time world champion asserted that fans will need to wait till the 2026 cars hit the track. Hamilton further mentioned that it was exciting to see teams manage two different cars, the current 2025 machinery and the upcoming 2026 cars.
I don’t really want to shut it down, because maybe things will be good. Let’s see when we get into the next season. It could go either way – it could be good, it could be not so good. But only time will tell. What I love is that while we’re fighting this season in this championship, we’re also having to develop the current car – and then the next car.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton remains hopeful about the upcoming rule changes. At a time when his 2025 campaign might as well be written off entirely, the Briton is clinging onto the technical shake-up with hopes of making it back to the front. However, Scuderia Ferrari must be able to turn things around next year and give Hamilton a car capable of winning the title.
