It’s only 30 kilos so it’s going in the right direction but it’s still heavy. I have only just seen [the FIA announcement] you have all seen. I have spoken to some drivers who have driven it on the simulator, I haven’t but they said it’s pretty slow, so we will see if it is actually the right direction or not. We just have to make sure the cars are efficient, fast and an actual step forward.

Charles: We are extremely slow.
Bryan Bozzi (race engineer): Hamilton is faster than everyone, but yes I agree.
Charles Leclerc’s race engineer Bryan Bozzi said via radio

Mercedes has shown signs of promise in the practice sessions leading up to qualifying, which was the case in the previous race for Monaco as well. The Silver Arrows have faltered in qualifying on multiple occasions this season despite having good practice sessions.

Lewis Hamilton is in a strong position as he looks to take the front row for the first time this season. Mercedes will try to maximize their pace advantage in the hopes of attaining their first podiums of this year around the Gilles Villeneuve racing circuit.
