Lewis Hamilton was bound to suffer from a problematic outing in Monza after being hit with a massive five-place grid penalty for the Italian GP. Hamilton was enjoying some positive outings, especially after returning from the summer break, and was hopeful of positive results. Despite the penalty causing his P5 start to be demoted to a P10 start, the seven-time champion is still delighted with his results.
Lewis Hamilton picked up a penalty at the Dutch GP and deemed it to be ‘hardcore’ and more intense than required. Still, Hamilton kept up with the positive feeling since the Zandvoort race and came to Monza with the same feeling. As such, after qualifying in P5 and starting the race from P10, the 40-year-old has opened up on his feelings after a mediocre start for Ferrari’s home race.
Speaking on ending up P5 in terms of lap times, Lewis Hamilton insisted that he was really happy with the progress the team had made so far. Hamilton felt that the improvements were great, especially on his side of the garage. The 40-year-old pointed out that the pace was solid in the previous week, and more so at the Italian GP.
I’m really, really happy with the progress we’ve made. Particularly on my side of the garage, it’s definitely been a lot more solid last week, but even more so this weekend.
Lewis Hamilton said in a post-qualifying interview
Lewis Hamilton raised uncertainty over his chances during the main race, considering that the rivals were looking equally strong, if not stronger, at the Italian GP. Hamilton noted that he was unaware of the possibilities during the main race. Regardless, the 40-year-old hopes to ‘wiggle’ his way up the pecking order and achieve a much better finish than his starting position in Monza.
I don’t know what’s possible tomorrow, but going to wiggle my way through.

The Tifosi come up in large numbers at both the Italian races, and more so at the Italian GP. The fans shower all their love and support on the Ferrari drivers and make sure that they walk out of the weekend with a huge smile on their face, regardless of the results. As such, Lewis Hamilton was extremely delighted at witnessing the Italian hospitality of the fans in Monza.

Lewis Hamilton insisted that he just had to keep working and witness the progress that he made throughout the year. Hamilton revealed that it was ‘amazing’ to be present at the Italian GP as a Ferrari driver, as it was his first time doing so. The 40-year-old emphasized that he couldn’t put his feelings into words, but the really beautiful fans helped him maintain a positive mindset over the weekend.
I’ve just got to keep working on it and seeing progress. It’s been amazing being here as a Ferrari driver. I can’t even find the words for it to be honest. The fans here are really beautiful.
