Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton has refused to discredit Red Bull despite their lackluster form in recent races this season. The Milton Keynes-based team has been winless since their triumph in Barcelona a few weeks ago.

Red Bull currently leads the title race by 51 points over second-placed McLaren. However, the outfit has been greatly vulnerable in the past few races, reducing their chances of retaining the title this year.

Lewis Hamilton has gone head-to-head against Red Bull several times in the past and is aware of the team’s capability on track. Hamilton claims the Christian Horner-led team still holds the edge in the title race against McLaren and others.

There was a time I was here when I was 40 or something points behind. But 70 is a big number when you’re against a car that has probably very, very close to a 100% record. They may have dropped down slightly in one of the races when Max’s engine stopped – Australia. But otherwise they’re a very highly-performing team.

The seven-time world champion has found form after a slow start this season and will fancy his chances during the Belgian GP. On the other hand, McLaren will make their best attempts at exploiting Red Bull to win at Spa on Sunday.

There's a bunch of balance issues we have through the lap, and it was better in this session, but everyone else went even better. So, to be 1.2 seconds behind is not great.
Lewis Hamilton said after FP2 via Autosport

Mercedes finished P4 and P5 at the end of FP1 but seemed unconvinced with the handling of the W15 around Spa. The Silver Arrows were decent during the initial part of FP2 but gradually faltered, finishing more than a second behind the leaders, McLaren.

Hamilton has thereafter pressed on the need to improve the W15’s balance on the soft tires. The final practice ahead of qualifying will offer a clearer picture for the team to work on their issues before the race on Sunday.
