Lewis Hamilton is one of the biggest personalities in the sports world. The seven-time world champion has used his voice to raise awareness regarding a lot of issues including mental health. Now, Hamilton has admitted that he struggled with depression for a long time.

The British driver revealed that he went through a rather difficult phase mentally during his twenties. Moreover, Hamilton confessed that he has found it hard to deal with mental health throughout his lifetime.

When I was in my twenties I had some really difficult phases. I mean, I’ve struggled with mental health through my life.

The 39-year-old claimed that he went into depression at the age of 13. Lewis Hamilton highlighted that the pressure of racing and the school, alongside the bullying he faced on an everyday basis was the reason for him feeling depressed. The Briton admitted that he had no one to talk to during this time.

Seeking professional help is the best way to deal with mental health issues. Lewis Hamilton recalled the time when he went to a therapist years ago. Unfortunately, things did not work out for the 39-year-old with those sessions. Nevertheless, Hamilton asserted that he wants to find another therapist and reach out for help once again.

I spoke to one woman [a therapist], years ago, but that wasn’t really helpful. I would like to find someone today.

Certainly, Lewis Hamilton has taken a bold step by admitting his struggles as a teen. The British driver has learnt to cope with the daily pressures in his life. Yet, Hamilton understands the need to seek help once again, something that his fans should learn as mental health could be a severe challenge for many.
